PBD is an active, low cost, lightweight battery interruption device
EV with the PBD on board help mitigate the risks of electrocution
It is an honor to have our commitment to safety recognized with this award
(2022.10.18) Ningbo, China/ Auburn Hills, MI USA Joyson Safety Systems (JSS) was named a 2022 CLEPA Innovation Award winner at the awards ceremony on October 13 in Brussels. This award acknowledges great achievements in the European automotive supply industry in two main mobility domains: Smart & Safe, and Clean & Sustainable.
Joyson Safety Systems was awarded for its Pyrotechnic Battery Disconnect (PBD), an active, low cost, lightweight battery interruption device. This technology is designed to increase driver safety in current and future electric and hybrid vehicles by addressing the additional safety risks brought about by the usage of high voltage and amperage systems. Located within the vehicle’s battery management system, this device is triggered by the electronic control unit to irreversibly disconnect the high voltage, high current flow from surrounding electric vehicle systems and is responsible for irreversibly severing high power battery connections in electric and hybrid vehicles. Electric vehicles with the Pyrotechnic Battery Disconnect system on board help mitigate the increased risks of electrocution resulting from electric and hybrid vehicle crashes.
“At Joyson Safety Systems, everything we do is focused to mobility safety and it is an honor to have our commitment to safety recognized with this award,” said Volker Hofmann, Chief Technology Officer, Joyson Safety Systems. “The hard work, discipline and dedication our team put into developing the PBD speaks to the work JSS is doing to make sure safety is at the forefront of the advancement of EV technology.”
The Innovation Awards were presented by CLEPA – The European Association of Automotive Suppliers - represents over 3,000 companies supplying state-of-the-art components and innovative technology for safe, smart and sustainable mobility. Every year, CLEPA invites organizations from across the mobility ecosystem to share their latest and greatest efforts in innovation excellence to support and recognize the outstanding achievements of the automotive industry.
